MARK BUXTON
Born in England, Mark Buxton's fascination with fragrance began when he grew up near Hamburg. Over 20 years ago, he fell in love with Paris, a city that would later become the epicenter of his career as a perfumer. Buxton has many passions, including love for wine, culinary arts, and antiques, particularly those with an art deco flair.
A chance encounter on a German game show, where a 21-year-old Buxton and a friend attempted to identify 600 perfumes in a blind test, led to representatives from Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise) offering him a slot in their prestigious training program in Paris. This serendipitous event began his extraordinary journey into the world of fine fragrance creation.
With over 25 years of experience, Mark Buxton has collaborated with internationally leading fragrance houses and designed scents for some of the most luxurious brands, such as Givenchy, Versace, Van Cleef & Arpels, Paco Rabanne, Lagerfeld, Burberry, Cartier, Chopard, and Ferré. His daring handwriting was first discovered when he created the inaugural Comme des Garçons fragrance. He quickly gained recognition in the world of Haute Parfumerie and has since participated in various artistic projects.
Buxton's extensive portfolio includes collaborations with brands like Oddity, biehl parfumkunstwerke, Brooklyn Soap Company, Cale Fragranze d'Autore, Le Labo, and WienerBlut. Some of his most popular creations include Paco Rabanne Black XS for Her, Salvador Dali Laguna, Comme des Garçons Comme des Garçons 2, and Kajal Lamar.
Mark Buxton's approach to perfume creation is characterized by his eclectic style, which fuses traditional British sensibilities with contemporary dandyism, rock, and offbeat energy. His unconventional-yet-wearable creations defy luxury codes with impertinence and daring. Buxton's quest for absolute simplicity is reflected in his seamless rigor and concise olfactory formulas.
His work with Comme des Garçons, particularly creating the original fragrance and CDG 2, exemplifies Buxton's distinctive touch and has solidified the fashion house's place in the niche fragrance world. His fingerprints can also be found in high-end perfumery, from the ultra-luxe House of Sillage collection to Le Labo's intoxicating Vetiver 46.
In 2010, Mark Buxton decided to invest in new creative projects, becoming one of the investors of Nose, a Parisian boutique dedicated to niche fragrances. Through his eponymous brand, Mark Buxton Perfumes, he aims to freely express and share his creative universe. The brand embodies a refined world of astonishing modernity, launching its first candle collection in 2019.
Mark Buxton's life and career in perfumery have been defined by his innovative spirit, passion for creativity, and unique approach to fragrance creation. His collaborations with leading fragrance houses and luxurious brands have solidified his reputation as an extraordinary talent in perfumery. With Mark Buxton Perfumes, he continues to share his distinctive vision with the world, captivating the senses of those who encounter his masterful creations.
