JOHN STEPHEN
John Stephen is a British independent perfumer, founder and creative director of The Cotswold Perfumery. In the mid-1960s, Stephen's father became the owner of a perfume shop, but did not succeed, and soon after, Stephen and his mother moved to the village of Burton in the south of England. There, they opened a small shop, founded The Cotswold Perfumery and began selling cosmetics and personal fragrances. Stephen studied chemistry at the University of Bath, and later joined the management of the brand. In the 1970s, he expanded the brand's range, which led to its growth and recognition in the British market. By that time, Stephen had begun to create fragrances to individual orders. A turning point in the history of the brand came in 1998, when Stephen was commissioned to develop two personal fragrances for the royal court, one of them for Elizabeth II. This is how the composition Jasmin was released. Since 2003, Stephen has been conducting courses and master classes for novice perfumers. He is also a member of the British Perfumery Society (BSP), the International Society of Perfumers (SIPC), and the British branch of IFRA. In addition to developing The Cotswold Perfumery, he created fragrances for the projects Czech & Speake, St. Raph, Barbury Castle, Dukes of Pall Mall. Since 2008, he has been one of the perfumers of the British brand Boadicea The Victorious.
